THE PAT GARRETT RIFLE DOCUMENTATION
Item #1 -- The copy of the postcard shown was sent from the Winchester Gun Museum on 11/21/1969 from T. E. Hall, curator in response to an inquiry from Staley about the purchaser of rifle serial # 31829. After receiving the card Staley contacted Hall by telephone and learned, in that conversation, the additional information: “the gun included in the shipment was sent to an unrecorded destination in Texas”. Subsequently the archives in the Winchester Gun Museum were sold to a private museum in Wyoming. Also a sketch showing the location of the carvings on the gun stock is included.
Item # 2 -- Selected pages from The 1948 New Mexico School of Mines Yearbook and Directory of the Alumni Association shows both Florentino B. Baca, class of 1923 living in Dallas Center, Iowa and William W. Staley, class of 1925 living in Moscow, Idaho.
Item # 3 -- The reprint from the December 2004 New Mexico Genealogist, Vol. 43, No. 4 shows the documentation of Florentino Baca’s relationship to his father, the famous officer of the law, Cipriano Baca.
Item # 4 -- New Mexico Genealogist, Vol. 43, No. 4 pp. 204 and 205. Item # 5 -- Typical cattle brand advertisements including ‘PAT’ brand of Garrett’s from: October 16, 1884 White Oaks “Golden Era” newspaper and “The Stock Grower”, Las Vegas, NM.

Item # 9 -- Garrett letter to Lincoln County Commissioners dated 10/3/1881 reads: “County Commissioner’s I have in my possession two horses and one saddle captured from Frank Wheeler also one gun and six shooter captured of William Bonney, which await your orders.
